Chris Paul suffered a potentially season ending hand injury this week, which threatens his further participation in the NBA Play-offs.
If his season is over, then it is a huge blow for the LA Clippers, for who he is an integral part of the team.
Despite his importance to the organisation, if another season ends up fruitless, Chris Paul could consider his options, and force the Clipper's hand by requesting a trade from the team which has him under contract until 2018.
Stephen A Smith told ESPN's First Take, broadcast on April 26 that he believes Paul could move away, and even touted the Cleveland Cavaliers as a potential destination.
"He's so desperate to win a championship. If it meant going to Cleveland, and playing with LeBron, he'd do it in a heartbeat."
With Blake Griffin's future in LA also in doubt, the Clippers would face a huge rebuilding job without the star duo, but perhaps it is time for a fresh approach.
If Cleveland want Chris Paul, it may cost them Kyrie Irving, who could thrive out of LeBron's shadow.
