The stopper has been on loan at Huddersfield Town this season.
Aston Villa will be playing in the Championship next season and changes are set to be made in the summer.
One area that seems likely to be addressed is the goalkeeper position.
Brad Guzan has been poor this season and Villa’s second choice Mark Bunn is not exactly the most inspiring of options himself.
A report this month in fact suggested that Aston Villa will be giving the number one jersey to a current player in the summer – Jed Steer.
The Sun reported that Villa were ready to give Steer a chance in the Villa first-team for next season.
So is he ready?
The 23-year-old has been at Villa since 2013 and has played once in the Premier League for Villa in a 1-0 defeat against Burnley back in May 2015.
This season he has truly shown his potential during a loan spell at Huddersfield Town.
He has been a regular starter for The Terriers and been one of their most consistent performers in the Championship this term.
He knows the division and appears to have handled his time in the second-tier well.
With that in mind Villa might be making a good move with handing Steer a chance next season.
