Fresh report suggests Galatasaray are keen on apparently incoming Tottenham Hotspur signing Mehmet Topal

The Turkish international is being linked with a return to his former club.

Reports in Turkey last week suggested Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a deal for Fenerbahce midfielder Mehmet Topal.

Plenty of Turkish sources, including Karar, reported that Spurs have already agreed a pre-contract agreement with the midfielder ahead of a summer move.

The versatile midfielder is out of contract in the summer and would be arriving in London on a free transfer.

Topal, who has played for Fenerbahce since 2012, was said to be keen on living in London and Spurs seemed set to give him that opportunity.

There has been no official confirmation yet of this apparently done deal and now the rumour mill is suggesting that Topal could make a shock switch to Istanbul rivals and former club Galatasaray. Topal was in fact the first man to win the Turkish title with both clubs.

Turkish-Football understands that Gala are keen on the player as well and are hopeful of completing a deal.

The report would certainly suggest that any move to Tottenham is likely to be far from complete.

His agent spoke about the deal at the end of last week. Batur Altiparmak told

Let us wait until the end of the season and see what happens.”

The 30-years-old currently has 56-caps for the Turkish national team and would be an interesting signature from Spurs considering his age – but would add some experience to the squad ahead of a Champions League campaign.
