Forgotten Aston Villa man provides latest injury recovery update on Instagram

Trinity Road Stand - Aston Villa

Libor Kozak has made just five first-team appearances since December 2013.

With all the furore surrounding Aston Villa both on and off the pitch this season, it is very easy to forget that striker Libor Kozak is even still a player at the club.

The Czech international joined Villa from Lazio in September 2013 after he had finished as the Europa League's top scorer the previous season, and arrived with both the player and his new supporters holding high hopes for his career in England.

Things started out relatively well with the then-24-year-old scoring four goals in his first 14 Premier League appearances for the club before disaster struck when he broke his leg in a training ground collision with teammate Ciaran Clark just two days into 2014.

That saw him miss the remainder of his debut season at the club, and things got worse when setbacks during his recovery ultimately ruled him out of the entirety of last campaign.

The striker finally made his comeback earlier this term after an encouraging pre-season when he featured in the Capital One Cup win over Notts County in August, but another injury issue saw him have to wait until January to feature again, when he put together a run of four appearances before suffering yet another issue,

The 26-year-old has not played since, and despite returning to training a few weeks ago, he confirmed on his personal Instagram account that he has had to have more surgery and will not be available to train again until pre-season.

I have had to have another small surgery but thankfully nothing serious and in two months I should be back on the pitch! Unfortunately, in the last couple of years I haven't really played because of injuries. It wasn't easy... Sometimes it's been really hard! However there are still people who continue to believe in me...and that's why I want to play again more than ever because this is what really matters in the end.⚽️ Thank you Bohuzel jsem musel podstoupit dalsi "mensi" zakrok na mem levem kotniku.

Kozak has around a year-and-a-half left on the four-year contract he signed when he joined Villa, but with just 20 appearances for the club to his name so far he will be desperate to put his injury problems behind him in the Championship next season.
