According to Bild, Arsenal have made an offer for Bayern Munich’s versatile defender Rafinha.
The German publication claim that the Bayern star, 30, has a three-year deal on the table from the Gunners and could be heading for the exits with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2017.
Rafinha, a two-capped Brazil international, joined the Bavarian side in 2011 and has since featured in a number of positions for the club, playing 22 Bundesliga matches this season.
He would add experience to the Arsenal back-line, and his capabilities with the ball make him ideal for Arsene Wenger’s side as his time under Pep Guardiola has no doubt improved his distribution.
But having said that, Arsenal’s reported interest in Rafinha comes as somewhat of a surprise unless he is being courted as a potential replacement for another player - quite possibly Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs came through the Arsenal academy and has since been a long-term member of the first-team squad.
However, Nacho Monreal's impressive form at left-back has limited his playing opportunities over the past two years, with the 26-year-old making just 15 league appearances this season.
Monreal signed a new deal with Arsenal in January, and that has raised more questions over Gibbs' future in North London with reports in ESPN claiming the defender could be off this summer.
With Rafinha capable of playing at left-back having featured there seven times for Bayern this season, his potential arrival could see Arsene Wenger happily allow Gibbs to depart the club.
