Tottenham fans react on Twitter to Gareth Bale's performance v City

Former Tottenham star was in action for Real Madrid.

Cristiano Ronaldo's injury left Real Madrid with a big task away at Manchester City last night, with the former Ballon d'Or winner missing out on the Champions League semi-final first leg.

A lot of the creative onus fell onto Gareth Bale, who left Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur for Real back in 2013.

While he has already won the Champions League once since joining Real, their route to the final hangs in the balance after a goalless draw at The Etihad.

Bale was unable to score the away goal Madrid would have wanted, but 0-0 is by no means a bad result to take back to Spain for the second leg.

He had five attempts at goal, although none landed on target, while creating two chances.

He was not the only former Spurs player on show, with Luka Modric immense in midfield foe Real, managing more touches than any player on the pitch (101) and completing 89 per cent of his passes.

His former side are doing pretty well for themselves, and could even come up against the Welshman in the Champions League next season.

The reaction from Spurs fans on Twitter to Bale's display shows they certainly would not mind having him back at the Lane, if any situation arose to make it possible...
