The two sides meet in the Europa League semi-final on Thursday evening.
The two sides meet in the semi-final of the competition on Thursday, with Liverpool travelling to Spain for the first leg.
The Reds have been made favourites for the tie given their sensational win over Borussia Dortmund in the last round.
The Germans were among the favourites for the competition before their exit at Anfield, and Marcelino concedes that success may make Jurgen Klopp’s side the favourites for the semi-final.
"Liverpool may be favourites rather than us because of their history and the fact they have knocked out Borussia Dortmund,” he told AS.
“Along with Sevilla [they] were favourites to win the competition. But we do not consider ourselves to be worse than them and we will do everything to eliminate them.
"They are a very good team, with many extraordinary players. They play a very intense style and have a great counter-attack. They press very high [and] we need to find solutions to overcome that first line of pressure. “
If Liverpool are to be successful, they must somehow work out a way to do so without the spine of their team.
Injuries have ravaged the first-team in recent weeks, with Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi all currently on the treatment table with various ailments.
They have also lost central defender Mamadou Sakho after the club imposed a playing ban on him following a positive drugs test by UEFA.
Three of those have all been first-team regulars for the side this season while Origi has impressed in recent months, and overcoming those losses will be a key challenge Klopp must deal with for the tie.
