Sheffield Wednesday's Joe Bennett provides injury update

The on-loan Aston Villa man is hoping to feature again for the Owls.

Joe Bennett could play for Sheffield Wednesday again despite returning to Aston Villa for treatment, the on-loan defender has hinted on Twitter.

Last week, Bennett took to the social media site to announce he had suffered minor ligament damage in training, but said he would be out for "weeks" rather than months.

When asked if he would be fit to take part in Wednesday's upcoming play-off campaign, for which they will qualify by avoiding defeat to Cardiff City this weekend, Bennett replied with a praying-hand emoji.

The Owls later recalled Jeremy Helan from his loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Bennett, who is yet to concede a league goal during his time at Hillsborough, has offered renewed hope of a comeback before his scheduled return to Villa Park.

"Treatment on the knee today then leg Strength in the gym," Bennett posted. "Getting treatment at both villa and Shef [Sheffield]"

In response to one user, who said he hoped Bennett would be fit for the play-offs, the 26-year-old again replied with a praying-hand emoji.

Bennett, who's made 38 appearances for Villa since arriving from Middlesbrough four years ago, has 12 months to run on his Villa Park contract.

The former England Under-21 international has Aly Cissokho, Jordan Amavi and Kieran Richardson ahead of him in the Villa pecking order, though the latter is out of contract this summer.
