Report: Spurs plan to add top-flight defender, could impact highly-rated Cameron Carter-Vickers

Tottenham teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers could go out on loan.

According to The Mirror, Tottenham are planning to add a 'top-flight' defender to their ranks this summer - and subsequently loan out Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Spurs are heading back to the Champions League next season, and whilst their title bid appears to have come up short after Monday's 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion, Mauricio Pochettino's men have plenty to look forward to as they prepare to challenge Europe's elite.

To compete in the league, domestic cups and the Champions League, Pochettino will have to add to his squad - and centre back could be an area he targets.

Despite Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen forming the Premier League's best central defensive partnership, and Kevin Wimmer offering superb backup when called upon, The Mirror report that Spurs are in the market for a 'top-flight' centre back.

Lyon's Samuel Umtiti is a named target for Tottenham, and whilst that could be a focus for Pochettino, the plan could have an impact on teenager Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The American youth international, 18, is touted as one of Tottenham's future stars, and has even been on the bench for Pochettino's first-team on occasion.

With Spurs keen to get him first-team football, The Mirror claim that, should Spurs sign a centre back this summer, the highly-rated Carter-Vickers is poised to leave the club on loan, where he would hopefully gain valuable first-team experience, just like Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Ryan Mason did during their loan spells away from White Hart Lane.
