John Stones' £45 million switch from Everton to Manchester City has moved a step closer according to a report in Wednesday's Sun newspaper.
The tabloid claims that Stones, a reported target for the Citizens and Chelsea, visited the Etihad Stadium for Tuesday's Champions League semi-final draw with Real Madrid.
Incoming City boss Pep Guardiola is said to want the 21-year-old as one of his first signings in Manchester and the report claims that friends of Stones say the two-time Premier League champions are his preferred choice.
Everton's season all but ended with Saturday's last-gasp defeat to Manchester United FA Cup semi-final, with their hopes of a top-half finish fading by the week.
And it is feared that top stars such as Stones and Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees' leading goalscorer, could quit Goodison Park this summer.
The position of manager Roberto Martinez is said to be under threat, with Everton failing to record a league win since March 1.
The Sun also report that a five-man list of replacements has been drawn up by the Merseyside club's board, headed ironically by departing City boss Manuel Pellegrini.
