Newcastle United star Moussa Sissoko backs Henri Saivet to come good at St James' Park

The Frenchman believes the winter signing can make it at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United may have put in some improved performances recently under the guidance of new manager Rafa Benitez but overall it looks like the club is still on its way to relegation from the Premier League.

That is despite several big signings in the winter. Jonjo Shelvey and Andros Townsend have become regulars since making their respective moves but Henri Saivet has become something of a forgotten man.

Signed from Bordeaux for a fee reported by the Daily Mail to be in the region of around £4.5 million.

But the Senegalese midfielder has struggled to have any real impact at the club.

Since his move he has played just four times for the club and has not featured since the 1-0 win against West Brom on the 6th February.

But his Newcastle team-mate Moussa Sissoko has been backing him to come good this week. The French international told the Chronicle:

“I knew of him before. I have played some games with him at international level with France for the Under-21s.

“He is a very good player. And we’re happy to have him here. He can help us get some good victories.

“I am very confident he can bring good things to our club.”

Whether or not Saivet stays at Newcastle in the summer seems to be up in the air but surely there is a place for him to thrive at St James Park in the future if he does get his chance.

However, it may have to be in the Championship.
