The Dallas Mavericks could make an attempt to acquire Ricky Rubio from Minnestota Timberwolves, an ESPN Insider has claimed.
Basketball coach and analyst David Thorpe claims that Dallas are an ideal landing spot for Rubio if the Timberwolves new coaching staff decide to deal the Spaniard.
The 25-year-old point guard averaged 10 points per game last season, 8.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds.
Thorpe said that he feels Rubio would team up well with perennial All Star Dirk Nowitski.
He said: "A better lead guard will help control their flow offense better and figure out ways to take advantage of Dirk as he winds down his career. If Coach Thibs isn't a Ricky Rubio fan, I can see Dallas making a play for him."
Rubio was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Timberwolves, but played in Europe until 2011, when he finally arrived amid much fanfare.
He is yet to maximise his potential, with the Timberwolves a losing franchise during the time he has been there, and last year trading away star player Kevin Love.
Rubio has also overcome a serious ACL knee injury suffered in 2012.
