Muhamed Besic uses Aston Villa supporters to make point about Everton fans

Everton and Aston Villa have both performed below expectations so far this season.

Muhamed Besic has told The Irish National that Everton fans are better than Aston Villa’s.

Besic, who plays in midfield for the Toffees, was shocked by how quiet Villa Park was when Everton visited the Midlands club earlier in the season.

Everton ran out 3-1 winners of the Claret and Blues back in March, and Besic has suggested that he has never heard Goodison Park as quiet as Villa’s home ground was that day.

“I was at every stadium in the Premier League last season and I saw all the [Everton] fans,” he said. “There are so many supporters, they are better than most fans in England. For example, when we played at Aston Villa, the fans of Aston Villa were quiet.

“But when we play at Goodison and [Leighton] Baines goes to take a corner, the Everton fans always clap. Small things like this, you see that Everton is a big club and the fans love the club.”

Villa may have had an excuse for having a quiet stadium, as their season has been a thoroughly miserable one.

The Villains have looked doomed for some time, and they were outplayed by Everton when the two sides met.

Everton’s crowd, meanwhile, has been growing increasingly frustrated in recent weeks with manager Roberto Martinez.

The Spanish boss has failed to live up to expectations this season, with Everton struggling to break out of mid-table in the Premier League.

The Merseyside club are currently sat in 11th place in the top flight, with Martinez’s position as manager looking very insecure.
