Could Pochettino's openness regarding Batshuayi suggest an alternative Tottenham target?

Tottenham Hotspur will look to strengthen their squad this summer.

In a recent interview with French radio station RMC, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that the club are monitoring Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.

The 22-year-old has been in superb form this season, scoring 20 goals and providing 10 assists to date, and there is little doubt the Belgian international would be a fine addition to Tottenham’s squad.

However, despite admitting that Batshuayi was on the club’s radar, could Pochettino’s openness actually hint at an alternative priority target?

After all, football managers rarely lay their cards on the table when it comes to potential transfers so why would Pochettino be so open unless he was using the player as a potential smokescreen?

It will come as a big surprise if Spurs do not bring in a new striker this summer, with an overreliance on Harry Kane likely to come back to haunt them in due course; however, Pochettino is savvy enough to keep his cards close to his chest despite hinting at an alternative hand.

Only time will tell, but with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Breel Embolo and of course Saido Berahino also on the agenda, Tottenham fans may have a tough few months guessing just who will ultimately arrive at White Hart Lane.
