One West Ham United star has been speaking about another.
The Frenchman arrived at Upton Park from Marseille last summer and wasted no time making himself a fan favourite, scoring 12 goals and providing 12 assists in 35 appearances to date, and he looks set to be the creative catalyst for the Hammers for some time yet.
Such has been Payet’s impact at West Ham that he was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award, and while he missed out on that nothing can be taken away from his superb individual season.
One man who has seen his brilliance up close regularly is Hammers ‘keeper Adrian and the Spaniard had this to say when describing the 29-year-old: “Payet has magic in his boots. We train with Dimitri Payet day in, day out, and he does exactly as what you see in games. He has been our best player this season.”
That is saying something when you consider just how many of West Ham’s first-team stars have shone during Slaven Bilic’s first year in charge.
Next up for the Hammers is a trip to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend, with a place in Europe next season still very much on the agenda.
