Fernando Morientes warns Liverpool about Villareal threat again

The two sides meet in the Europa League semi finals on Thursday.

Former Liverpool striker Fernando Morientes has reiterated his warning to the Reds about upcoming opponents Villareal, in comments reported by the Mirror.

The two sides are set to clash in Spain on Thursday evening, as they meet in the Europa League semi finals.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into the game as one of the tournament favourites, after they managed to see off Borussia Dortmund, the previous favourites, at the quarterfinal stage.

Some believe that the La Liga side was the best tie they could have gotten, but Morientes has reiterated that they are a much more dangerous side than they are given credit for.

“For me, Villarreal is one of the best teams in La Liga at the moment. They have real quality,” the Mirror reports him saying.

“Everyone said they are the best team for Liverpool to face in the last four, but they are ahead of [holders and fellow semi-finalists] Sevilla in La Liga and a better side.”

“They play very good football. They have a very strong mentality and the coach always tries to attack. It’s always the same. They are a team to be feared.”

It would certainly be foolish for Liverpool to head into the tie thinking all they have to do is turn to win.

Indeed, they are not even heading there with their strongest squad, with Emre Can, Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi all on the treatment table.

They have also lost Mamadou Sakho after his imposed suspension over doping claims, meaning Jurgen Klopp has serious work to do just selecting his team before thinking about the game itself.
