The two sides meet in the Champions League semi finals on Tuesday.
The two sides clash at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final in what is sure to be an intriguing tie.
Both head into the game full of confidence following their quarter-final games, with City seeing off Paris Saint-Germain in impressive form and Madrid managing to overcome Wolfsburg courtesy of a Cristiano Ronaldo hat-trick.
The La Liga giants are arguably the team City will have wanted to draw and Nicholas has backed them to secure a big win at the Etihad.
“A lot hinges on Ronaldo's fitness and, with no disrespect to him, I hope he does miss it because it would give City a chance here,” he told Sky Sports.
“That would give City the belief that they can establish a good lead with Sergio Aguero's good form against a frail and overrated Madrid defence. I think both teams will score.
“[But} I just feel that this could be Manchester City's night if Aguero can get at a rash and overly aggressive Madrid defence. I think both he and De Bruyne will find the target in a magical night.”
If Ronaldo does manage to prove his fitness, as seems may be the case, it will certainly make Madrid a much tougher prospect on Tuesday evening.
Luckily City should have Vincent Kompany back in the team, with his influence in the defence sure to provide them with a big boost in their hopes of keeping the Portuguese star quiet.
Who starts alongside him will be the interesting question, with Nicholas Otamendi many people’s first choice but Eliaquim Mangala proving his worth in recent weeks also.
