Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has suggested on his website that Stoke City boss Mark Hughes would be a good managerial appointment for Everton.
Roberto Martinez is in charge of Everton at the moment, but the Spaniard has come under pressure this season due to the team’s disappointing performances and results in the Premier League.
Keys believes that Hughes would be a good candidate for the Toffees’ managerial job if indeed Martinez is sacked at the end of the season.
The former Sky Sports presenter, though, does not think that David Moyes returning to Everton would be a good idea.
“As for replacements, I've heard Moyes name mentioned,” Keys wrote on his website. “Would it be a good idea to go back? I don't know. It doesn't very often work. It didn't for Howard Kendall.
“I've heard Marcelo Bielsa's name mentioned in despatches. Here's an interesting thought - what about Mark Hughes? He knows the club. He's managed big clubs. He might just be ideal. “
Hughes, who played for Everton back in 2000, knows the Premier League inside out and is doing a great job at Stoke at the moment.
The Potters have transformed under him, and play very good and entertaining football. Stoke were in the hunt for an European place until a few weeks ago, and this demonstrates the impact Hughes has made at the Britannia Stadium.
It is unlikely that the former Wales international forward would be looking to leave the Potters at the end of the season, though. After all, why should Hughes be looking to leave a club where he is doing so well?
