Richard Keys hits out at Everton manager on Twitter, Carlton Palmer responds

Roberto Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez recently took a sly dig at his predecessor David Moyes.

Well-known sports presenter Richard Keys has criticised Everton manager Roberto Martinez on social networking site Twitter.

Martinez recently took a sly dig at former Everton boss David Moyes, telling The Mirror: "If I had been given ten years to work with Everton by being mediocre I would not accept that. We are a big club with big expectations and we have not won silverware for 21 years.”

Keys has criticised Martinez on Twitter for making those comments, with former Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer also making his opinion on the Spaniard known on the social networking site.

Martinez is a good manager, but his comments, if indeed they were a dig at Moyes, are unwarranted.

Moyes made Everton an established Premier League club, and he should be praised for that. The former Manchester United manager may not have been able to win any major trophies with the Toffees, but he certainly made them a better club.

Martinez is struggling to guide Everton to a top-10 finish in the Premier League this season. The Merseyside outfit also failed to progress to the final of the FA Cup at the weekend, losing the semi-final tie against Manchester United 2-1 at the Wembley Stadium in London.

Pressure is increasing on the former Wigan Athletic manager, who could lose his job at Goodison Park at the end of the season.
