Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Spanish midfielder.
The 21-year-old has featured 43 times for the La Liga club this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the process, and given his innate talent and versatility it would be no surprise if Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino was keen.
Saul is predominantly a central midfielder although he can also operate on either wing, as a defensive midfielder and even as a centre-back if necessary, but such is his ability that he will not come cheap.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Saul has a £34.5million release clause and he is currently contracted to Atletico until the summer of 2020.
The thing is, the report claims the player’s English suitors – also said to include Manchester United and Arsenal – are willing to pay what they call crazy money for the player, meaning that his release clause would not be a deal-breaker.
Tottenham are going to have to invest well this summer as they bid to improve on what has been a superb campaign and there is no doubt Saul’s signing would be a considerable step in the right direction if Pochettino is able to convince his chairman to write a hefty cheque.
