Report: Rangers to play Tottenham in closed doors friendly in preparation for Scottish Cup final

The Gers' Scottish Championship campaign ends around three weeks before the final.

The Scottish Sun is claiming that Rangers will face Tottenham Hotspur in a closed doors friendly as part of their preparation for the Scottish Cup final clash with Hibernian.

Mark Warburton's men's Scottish Championship campaign finishes around three weeks before the clash is scheduled to take place at Hampden Park towards the end of May.

And while Alan Stubbs' side will have a play-off campaign that will see them playing competitive football in the build-up to the game, the fact that the Light Blues have already secured promotion means that they could be in a slightly awkward frame in mind, knowing that they face a considerable wait after their game against St Mirren before they play again.

However, although the contest against Mauricio Pochettino's men is just a friendly, the fact that Spurs have spent most of the season in the Premier League title race means that they will undoubtedly be the kind of challenge that Warburton will want his players to come up against in preparation for the Hibs clash, even if the North London side take their foot off the pedal at the end of a long season.

The Scottish Sun adds that the game will be an opportunity for Martyn Waghorn to prove his fitness ahead of the final, having not played for the Ibrox club since picking up an injury in February.
