Report: Nottingham Forest loanee Ryan Mendes not set for permanent stay, will return to Lille

Lille

The Cape Verde international has been inconsistent at the City Ground.

Nottingham Forest have had to be creative in their recruitment policy this season, with the club under the strict guidance of a transfer embargo.

That has seen the club restricted to loan deals and free transfers and now decision time is nearing regarding some of those temporary signatures.

Nelson Oliveira for instance is on his way out of the club whilst Forest fans will hold hope for a permanent Gary Gardner deal.

So what about Ryan Mendes?

The flying winger has had an up and down season. At times the Cape Verde international has looked unplayable but, on other occasions, he has not been good enough for English football.

His inconsistency would mean many a Forest fan would say they could happily see the back of him. It looks like that will be the case. L’Equipe is reporting that Mendes will return to parent club Lille this summer and Forest will not be attempting to keep him.

Forest have the likes of Oliver Burke coming through the youth system at the moment and their transfer embargo is set to be lifted in the summer – after they received a big windfall from the sale of Michail Antonio.

So a suitable replacement should surely arrive and Mendes can hopefully have a positive impact back in France, or wherever he ends up.
