Report: Middlesbrough join the race for Gent striker Laurent Depoitre

Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in signing Gent striker Laurent Depoitre. Aston Villa and West Bromwich Albion have already been linked.

According to a report on TalkSPORT, Middlesbrough have joined the race to sign Gent striker Laurent Depoitre.

Boro showed in January that they have a great amount of financial power, by bringing in Jordan Rhodes from Blackburn Rovers.

And it seems that if they are promoted they could once again dip into the market to sign another expensive striker.

Depoitre is expected to leave Gent in the summer, but he is unlikely to come cheap.

The 27-year-old, who is also reportedly of interest to both West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa, has netted 14 goals in the Belgian Pro-League this season, and he has also opened his goalscoring account on the international stage for Belgium.

If Middlesbrough did move for Depoitre it would be a signal of their intent, as they aim to further strengthen a squad already packed with talent.

Boro are one of the leading candidates to go up from the Championship this season, and they are likely to be active in the summer transfer window if they do manage to claim an automatic promotion spot.
