Darius Vassell says he won't be unhappy if James Milner breaks his impressive Premier League record

Milner and Vassell never lost in the Premier League after scoring.

Former Aston Villa and Manchester City striker Darius Vassell retired from the game in January this year. It came after several years battling a serious knee injury.

Vassell, who was something of an inconsistent player, played 22 times for England but will be best remembered for missing a penalty for the national team in the crucial Euro 2004 quarter-final tie with Portugal.

But Vassell does have a fantastic record from the Premier League.

He never lost a single game in which he had scored in the Premier League – a record standing at 46 games.

But hot on his tail at the moment is Liverpool midfielder James Milner.

He has moved to 41 and the Liverpool star will surely be hoping to overtake Vassell.

If he does, then Vassell says he would be pleased to see it happen. The former Villa striker told Transfermarkt:

“Honestly, I did not know until a few years ago none of these statistics and it seems as if it is quite attractive to keep this record. It's nice that it is recognized.

“But records are there to be broken. I wish James Milner luck. If he breaks it, it's great that such a deserving player can hold the record then.

“I’ll keep my eyes open, hold my fingers crossed behind my back, but would not be unhappy if he gets him.”

Milner has been in good form at Liverpool in recent weeks and it seems he will be remaining a key member of the Liverpool team under the guidance of his new boss Jurgen Klopp.

If Milner can beat a record on his way to success with Liverpool then fans of the club will be pleased.
