Report: Celtic abandon free transfer for Ola Aina after learning wage demands

Celtic Stands

Celtic have reportedly been left stunned by Ola Aina's wage demands.

According to The Telegraph, Celtic have scrapped a deal for Chelsea teenager Ola Aina, after he wanted to become the club's highest-earning player.

The Bhoys will be on the lookout for a new manager this summer after confirming the departure of Ronny Deila, but appear to be kickstarting their transfer plans early.

The Telegraph report that Celtic were keen to land Chelsea right back Ola Aina on a free transfer this summer, but were left stunned when he wanted to become the club's highest earner.

Aina, 19, has come up through the ranks at Chelsea but will see his contract at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the season, and with no first-team opportunities for him, he looks set to leave the Blues on a free transfer.

With the defender able to talk to clubs ahead of his free agent status, Aina seemingly held preliminary talks with Celtic, but there will be no deal after the Bhoys learned that he wanted astronomical wages, which would have made him Celtic's highest earner.

There are no figures given, but given that Celtic have proven international players like Craig Gordon, Scott Brown, Nir Bitton and Leigh Griffiths in the ranks, Aina's demands must have been truly massive - and having not made a first-team appearance for Chelsea, it's unsurprising that Celtic scoffed at Aina's demands.

The Bhoys did sign a young Premier League right back last summer in Saidy Janko, but they appear to be keen on adding even more depth behind Swedish international Mikael Lustig - thought it won't be Aina heading to Glasgow this summer, according to reports.

Do you think Celtic need another right back?
