Newcastle United managed to pick up a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in their most recent outing.
Newcastle drew 2-2 with Jurgen Klopp’s rapidly improving side last Saturday, in a result which was largely reflected on as a positive one.
However, the Magpies were slow out of the blocks once again and left themselves a mountain to climb.
Newcastle went into the break at 2-0 down, after Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana scored for the hosts, and only an unlikely comeback saw them return to St. James’ Park with a point.
Newcastle’s survival hopes have been boosted by the draw, but Benitez admits he is concerned about his side’s tendency to start matches slowly.
“The first half was a little bit concerning about the mistakes we were making,” he said.
“But the reaction is the main positive thing we can take from this game.”
Newcastle have fallen behind on numerous occasions this season, but recently have they shown some battling qualities.
As well as their draw against Liverpool, Newcastle also fought back from behind against Sunderland to claim a valuable point.
The Magpies need to start turning draws into victories though, as they look to escape the bottom three.
As things stand, Newcastle are one point adrift of safety with just three games remaining in the season.
