Sunderland, Newcastle United and Norwich City are currently competing for 17th place, with two out of the three set to go down.
Both Sunderland and Newcastle have shown signs of life in recent weeks, and they have closed the gap on Norwich.
Indeed, the Black Cats’ form has now seen them take the coveted 17th spot - but both Norwich and Newcastle are only one point behind.
It is all set up to be a thrilling climax to the season, and Wright has backed Sunderland to be the team which survives.
“I’m going to say Sunderland are going to get out of it,” he said. “If you have to put your marker on one of them, I’d put in on Sunderland because of that - Sam Allardyce and Jermain Defoe.”
Sunderland and Norwich both have four matches remaining, while Newcastle only have three.
Sam Allardyce’s side are set to travel to Stoke City at the weekend, before playing Chelsea, Everton and Watford.
Norwich have matches against Arsenal, Manchester United, Watford and Everton still to play.
Newcastle’s remaining three contests come against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
