Diamondback Capital Management co-founder Richard Schimel is ready for his next act.

The New York Post reports that hired this week by billionaire hedgie Ken Griffin to run a new, still unnamed division, Schimel called his new gig “the opportunity of a lifetime.”

“I have resources, capital, infrastructure, the name of Citadel and an empty canvass to build an amazing team and platform,” Schimel told The Post in an exclusive interview.

Thanks to the current tough economic environment for hedge funds — which have shuttered a lot of funds — there is “a lot of talent” out there, he said.

“The big firms are getting bigger, and expenses are going up, which makes it tougher to run a smaller fund,” he said. “This is a great opportunity to recruit talent. I can offer large pools of capital and build a deep team.
