Sunderland picked up a valuable point against Arsenal.
Former players Micky Hazard and Michael Gray took to social networking site Twitter in order to praise Sunderland after they picked up a 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
The Black Cats headed in to the game having lost just two of their last nine matches, demonstrating their progression and evident survival skills under boss Sam Allardyce.
They knew a point would be enough to momentarily take them out of the bottom three, and that is what they got after a battling performance prevented Arsenal from breaking the deadlock.
Writing on Twitter after the game, Hazard and Gray were complimentary of the home side and felt that a point was the very least they deserved on the balance of play over the 90 minutes.
Well done Sunderland great fight, deserved more but you're still alive and fighting COYS— Micky Hazard (@1MickyHazard) April 24, 2016
Great performance today... Thought we deserved all 3 points... Nailed on pen not given yet again #SAFCvAFC— michael gray (@mickygray33) April 24, 2016
Sunderland did have their chances over the course of the encounter, notably in the second period where Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech made important saves while the post came to the visitors’ rescue.
The draw leaves Allardyce’s side in 17th position, ahead of relegation rivals Norwich City on goal difference.
Next up for Sunderland is a trip to Stoke City, followed by back-to-back home games against Everton and Chelsea before a final day trip to FA Cup semi-finalists Watford.
