Crystal Palace beat Watford 2-1 at Wembley this weekend.
Manchester United were awaiting the winner in the final following their 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
While the encounter was not quite as action-packed as that one, Palace and Watford left nothing behind as they went toe-to-toe in what can only be described as a tense semi-final.
Yannick Bolasie’s early opener was cut out by Watford’s Troy Deeney, yet before the Hornets could settle they found themselves behind again as Connor Wickham netted a wonderful header.
The former Sunderland man’s strike proved to be the winner, and Palace’s victory was met with praise from a number of pundits on Twitter including Gary Lineker and former goalkeeper David James.
Chuffed for Crystal Palace that they'll be at Wembley in the @EmiratesFACup final next month.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 24, 2016
Well done @CPFC Bolasie and Wickham goals enough to take them through to the Emirates FA cup final— David James (@jamosfoundation) April 24, 2016
The Eagles’ run to the FA Cup final has been somewhat surprising considering they have only won one game in the Premier League since the turn of the year.
Palace have slipped alarmingly towards the bottom three over the past four months, yet in the cup they have seen off the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton, Stoke City and now Watford on route to the final.
United will undoubtedly start the final as favourites against Alan Pardew’s side, yet the South Londoners often relish being the underdogs and it would be wise not to write them off.
