Newcastle United survival the only objective says Papiss Cisse

The striker scored only his third goal of the season in the draw with Liverpool.

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse says his sole objective is to keep the club in the Premier League this season, he has told the club's official website.

The striker rediscovered his goal-scoring form on Saturday afternoon as he helped his side to secure a 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

It was an impressive display from the Magpies, as Cisse’s goal in the second half saw them bag a vital point despite having been 2-0 down in the game.

The goal was only the striker's third overall all season in what has been a frustrating campaign, and rather than setting any targets, he says keeping his team from relegation is his only objective.

"It's been a long time since I scored a goal, and it's very, very important for me to get it and some confidence," he

"My objective is to try and keep this team in the Premier League, and that's my only objective. Every game I try to do my best to help the team, to help the fans, so today I'm happy to score."

Rafa Benitez’s side could certainly do with Cisse finding his scoring boots in the three games remaining, as the relegation race looks set to go to the wire.

Newcastle have struggled for goals all season, with their strikers in particular having found consistency hard to come by.

Indeed, Cisse looked all but done before Benitez’s arrival, with the Spaniard opting for him ahead of Aleksandar Mitrovic in recent weeks, and he will be hoping that faith is repaid again as it was at Anfield.
