Rafael Benitez shares what he told Newcastle United's players after Liverpool draw

Newcastle United came from two-goals down to claim a point against Liverpool.

Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez has told the Shields Gazette that his players have been warned about giving other side’s advantages.

Newcastle fell to 2-0 behind against Liverpool yesterday, before they finally responded and mounted an unlikely comeback.

Papiss Cisse first scored with a header, before Jack Colback completed the comeback.

And Benitez said: "We have to keep going.

"I have told the players it is important to understand that it is more important not to make mistakes and allow the other teams to go ahead at the beginning of games.”

Newcastle have been guilty of going behind in matches fairly frequently this season, and they are putting pressure on themselves by doing so.

The Magpies’ powers of recovery have helped them, though, and the point that they claim at Anfield may well be vital in the race to beat the drop.

Newcastle are currently still in 19th place in the Premier League table, but they have reduced the gap to safety.

The Tynesiders are now just one point behind Norwich City, who occupy the place above the drop zone, and their remaining fixtures appear kind.

Newcastle face a tough game against Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the season, but Benitez’s side’s upcoming matches against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa both appear winnable.
