Former player Stan Collymore has taken to social networking site Twitter in order to mock Aston Villa star Leandro Bacuna following his poor performance in the 4-2 defeat to Southampton.
The versatile Dutchman prompted heavy criticism from the club’s supporters earlier in the campaign as he announced his intentions to leave Villa Park and play for a Champions League club.
While ambition in football is great, his comments were ill-advised considering the club’s position in the table.
Bacuna is largely expected to leave Villa this summer after relegation to the Championship was confirmed, yet in the meantime he still has a job to do and one which he should do with pride.
However, his performance against Southampton was mediocre at best and his error, leading to a Saints goal, was met with sarcasm from Collymore as he subtly questioned his ability on Twitter.
Bacuna. What a player.— Stan Collymore (@StanCollymore) April 23, 2016
Champions League bound that lad.
Bacuna managed just two shots and two successful dribbles of note against Ronald Koeman’s men, and it came somewhat as a surprise to see him remain on the field amid the substitutions.
The 24-year-old joined the club from Groningen in 2013, and he has gone on to make more than 70 Premier League appearances for the Midlands club over the past three seasons.
It’s safe to say he won’t be missed by the Villa supporters should he leave the club this summer.
