Tottenham defender names three teammates who keep everyone on a leash

Tottenham Hotspur are in the running for the Premier League title this season.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has told The Telegraph that there are three players in the team who act like parents to the rest of the squad.

The England international right-back has revealed that Hugo Lloris, Toby Alderweireld and Michel Vorm are the three players who try to keep the rest of the team on a leash.

“We’ve got a lot of different characters,” Walker told The Telegraph. “I’m probably one that’s known for jokes, but Dele and Eric are probably pipping me at the minute.

“Jan’s always there with a bit of banter. Then you’ve got the sensible ones: Hugo, Toby [Alderweireld], Michel Vorm, like parents trying to keep us on a leash. We all complement each other well. It’s just a joy to go into work every single day.”

Walker, who has been on the books of Tottenham since 2009, has also given an insight into the relationship he has with head coach Mauricio Pochettino.

“It’s weird,” the 25-year-old told The Telegraph when asked to describe his relationship with Pochettino. “It’s like a friend, but you have so much respect for him because of what he’s done in his football career. The thing I’ve warmed to the most is that you can knock on his door.

“My granddad had a stroke two or three months ago. I knocked on his door and said: ‘I need to go to Sheffield to see my granddad.’ He said, ‘Never mind about the double session. Family’s more important. Go and see your granddad.’ To me, that said everything about the man that he is.”

Walker has been one of the most important players for Tottenham this season and has been in good form.

The former Sheffield United right-back has scored one goal and created 28 chances in 29 Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this campaign.

The 25-year-old has a pass accuracy of 78% and a shot accuracy of 58%, and has won 42 headers, 15 dribbles and 64 tackles.

Tottenham are second in the Premier League table at the moment with 68 points from 34 matches, five points behind leaders Leicester City.
