Everton devastated by Manchester United loss, says Phil Jagielka

The Blues were beaten by a late goal from Antony Martial in the FA Cup semi final.

Everton’s players are devastated by the loss to Manchester United, Phil Jagielka has told BBC Sport.

The Blues were left heartbroken on Saturday afternoon as a last minute winner from Antony Martial saw them knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi final stage.

It was a disappointing end to a scintillating cup clash, as Roberto Martinez’s side mounted an impressive second half rally to come back from a goal down and nearly end up winning the tie.

Everton’s players were visibly gutted at the end of the game, as one would imagine, and Jagielka has admitted that the mood is the dressing room is a low one.

"To lose 2-1 is disappointing but to lose with the last kick of the game - we're absolutely devastated,” he told BBC Sport.

"We knew we had to perform. We put them on the back foot in the second half but didn't take our chances. We weren't able to find that magical moment.”

With Everton’s season now effectively over, the attention is now firmly on the future of Roberto Martinez.

The Catalan described this week as a pivotal one for him, and it has not been a good, with a humiliating loss to Liverpool and the disappointment of the FA Cup exit.

A vast number of the club’s fans are now calling for him to be sacked, and whether he is at Everton for much longer remains to be seen.
