The Gunners beat Tony Pulis' side 2-0 on Thursday evening.
The Gunners were 2-0 winners on Thursday evening as they returned to winning ways following the disappoint draw with Crystal Palace.
The win was a much-needed one as it returned them to third in the table and extended the gap over Manchester United in fifth to four points.
Despite that, the praise was not forthcoming given Wenger’s side are expected to beat the Baggies given the gulf in quality between the two sides.
Merson though, says that his old side deserve more credit than they received for getting the job done.
“You have to give credit where credits due,” he told Soccer Saturday.
“Thursday night was a big football result. For what had happened and the pressure that was on them, for them to go an win that game should have gotten more respect.”
“People say it’s West Brom and Arsenal should beat them, but not the way they’ve been playing. It’s not been that easy and that was a must win game.”
Arsenal certainly have some work to do towards getting their fan base back on their side following another disappointing campaign.
The fans showed their discontent on Thursday evening as pictures showed that large swathes of the Emirates sat empty as the supporters voted with their feet.
Much is likely to rest on the work they do in the summer transfer window, with positive signigns sure to bring the fans back on board.
