David Ginola suggested on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 22) that he has been impressed with Andros Townsend’s performances for Newcastle United.
Townsend joined Newcastle from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
The 24-year-old has scored three goals and created 21 chances in nine Premier League appearances for Newcastle.
Townsend has a pass accuracy of 80% and a pass accuracy of 91%, and has won 13 dribbles and 14 tackles.
Former Newcastle attacker Ginola seems to have been impressed with Townsend’s transformation at St. James’ Park.
“When you see Andros Townsend being positive again in this game,” said the former Tottenham Hotspur star on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Friday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 22) while discussing how manager Rafael Benitez has changed the mentality of the Newcastle players.
“I remember him being at Spurs and questioning his ability to finish, end products, we are taking about end products, crosses, assists, goals, this is about stats, players like that can turn a game with the click of a finger.”
Newcastle are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 29 points from 34 matches.
Rafael Benitez’s side will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Liverpool away from home at Anfield in the league.
