Report: West Bromwich Albion express interest in Liverpool striker Christian Benteke

Benteke is out of favour at Liverpool and the Baggies could fund his signing by selling a striker of their own.

West Bromwich Albion have expressed an interest in Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to the Daily Mail.

Benteke cost the Reds a reported £32.5 million from Aston Villa last summer, but the Baggies would look to fund the Belgian's signing through the sale of wantaway frontman Saido Berahino.

Signed by previous Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, Benteke has found it hard to adapt to Jurgen Klopp's style of play and would arguably be better suited to a more direct system, such as the one employed by West Brom boss Tony Pulis.

The 25-year-old has scored eight goals in 35 appearances for the Reds, but hasn't started a league game since early January and was recently sidelined with minor ligament damage.

Berahino, who scored 20 goals for the Baggies last term but has been frozen out by Pulis this season, was a £22 million target for Tottenham Hotspur last summer, while Stoke City and Newcastle United have since been credited with an interest.

Benteke has also been linked with a move to West Ham United, who it is claimed have set aside £40 million for the purchase of a marquee centre-forward.
