Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil has told the club’s official website that teammate Alex Iwobi has amazed him with his progress in the first team this season.

Iwobi made his debut for Arsenal in the League Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the campaign.

Despite the Gunners boasting a big squad full of quality, boss Arsene Wenger has included Iwobi in his first-team plans on a number of occasions of the past six weeks with great affect.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Ozil feels that the Nigeria international has a big future in the game, and has revealed that he has been left amazed by his sudden progress thus far.

“When I consider their age and that they’ve come through at a club like Arsenal, I think they are on a good path. They prove themselves in training, they are good on the ball. Alex Iwobi has amazed me with the way he’s performed for the first team recently,” Ozil explained to the club’s official website when asked how good the young players coming through at Arsenal can become.

“Then there’s Serge Gnabry, who I like a lot as a player. He’s really robust, very determined and with a real will to win. I think they can really achieve a lot.”

Iwobi has the ability to play in a number of positions in the final third, giving boss Wenger more options and freedom in his line-up as Alexis Sanchez and Ozil are also interchangeable.

The 19-year-old has made 10 Premier League appearances, scoring two goals and adding two assists.

His biggest moment of the campaign came in the Champions League as he started the last-16 second-leg tie against Barcelona at the Nou Camp, impressing immensely as he didn’t put a foot wrong all night.
