Merson claims it does not pain him to see Tottenham winning, predicts West Brom game

Paul Merson says he does not mind Tottenham winning as it could help Arsenal out long term, and has a negative prediction for Leicester City.

Paul Merson has told SkySports that he expects Tottenham Hotspur to keep up their winning run this weekend.

Spurs host West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane in another Monday night clash, where they will be hoping to repeat last week's success, when they beat Stoke City 4-0.

Merson does not believe the scoreline will be quite that emphatic, predicting a 3-0 win for Spurs instead.

He also admitted that despite being a former Arsenal player, he does not feel upset to see Tottenham doing well, and sitting above the Gunners out in the table, arguing it could give Arsene Wenger's side the jolt they need.

He said: "It doesn't even pain me to see Spurs where they are at the moment, they are a very good team. Hopefully their success kicks Arsenal into gear.

"If this Tottenham team stays together and they get a couple more players they'll be favourites for the title next season."

Merson also believes league leaders Leicester City will drop points this weekend without Jamie Vardy, despite playing what should be the easiest of their last four matches, taking on Swansea City.

He said, forecasting a 1-1 draw: "I just don't see Leicester winning without Vardy, he is a massive, massive miss. Swansea will just play around halfway, suffocate the Foxes and come away with a point which will blow the title race wide open."

If Merson is right then Leicester's lead at the top will be just three points with three games to go, with Tottenham Hotspur possessing a superior goal difference in the event of any further slip up from the Foxes.
