The French winger struggled during his spell at Newcastle United.
Newcastle United looked to have brought in a great signing in the summer with the arrival of Florian Thauvin.
However, he struggled for any sort of form in his time with the club.
Thauvin has played just 420 minutes of football for Newcastle United since joining the club in the summer in a deal reported by the Daily Mail to be worth around £12 million plus a loan deal for Remy Cabella.
Since heading back to Marseille he has not been able to rekindle any real form but last night ended up proving a massive occasion for the player.
Thauvin scored the winning goal (video courtesy of French Football Federation's official YouTube channel) as Marseille made it to the French Cup final to face their big rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
Thauvin picked up the ball on the right wing and jinked past his defender, before smashing the ball through the Sochaux goalkeeper.
The goal was Thauvin’s second since returning to Marseille in January and will hopefully go some way toward placating fans of the club, who have seen Marseille struggle this campaign.
Newcastle will be hoping that he can continue to find his feet once again, with his future still potentially at St James’ Park.
