Eric Dier's performance up against Stoke's Giannelli Imbula this week showed they were right to back him over investing in the midfielder.
Tottenham Hotspur produced a complete performance against Stoke City on Monday night, winning 4-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
Among those to play well was England international Eric Dier, who continues to impress after being switched to central midfield by head coach Mauricio Pochettino earlier this season.
Dier was up against Stoke City ace Giannelli Imbula, who Stoke paid £18.3 million to sign in the January transfer window.
Imbula was a player linked with signing for Tottenham Hotspur the previous summer. The Mirror claimed in June they were considering paying £12 million plus Benjamin Stambouli for the midfielder.
Talksport reported in September that Spurs were still keen on Imbula, with the player failing to settle after making a summer switch to Porto.
On Monday night, Eric Dier sent a clear message to Tottenham's board: Mauricio Pochettino knows exactly what he is doing, and that the club were right not to splash out a big fee to sign Imbula.

Dier more than held his own against a player more experienced in a defensive midfield role, as he has done all season versus different opponents.
Imbula was more effective in terms of passing, but Dier was the only one of the two players to win a tackle and make an interception, with seven combined in total.
The Tottenham's star's performance is just another indicator that Mauricio Pochettino can be trusted in the transfer market, and when he wants to spend, he will, but he is able to find solutions without doing so.
