Report: Everton planning move for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams this summer

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Ashley Williams from Swansea City.

According to a report on ESPN, Everton are targeting Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.

Williams has impressed at the heart of the Swans’ defence over a number of seasons, and his good form has caught the eye of Roberto Martinez.

Martinez was the manager who brought Williams to Swansea back in 2008, and he is now reportedly planning for a reunion with the 31-year-old at Goodison Park.

Everton have money to spend in the summer transfer window, following the investment of Farhad Moshiri, and strengthening their defence will be a priority.

The Toffees have leaked goals this season, with the likes of Phil Jagielka, John Stones and Ramiro Funes Mori all struggling for form.

Martinez now wants to add another centre-back and it is believed that Williams is near the top of his list.

Swansea, however, are said to be determined to keep hold of the powerful defender, who still has two years left on his contract at the Liberty Stadium, meaning Everton may have to pay a large amount of money to secure Williams’ signature.
