Rangers fell to a head-scratching 3-2 defeat at Hibernian in the Scottish Championship on Wednesday, leaving Mark Warburton miffed.

Scottish Championship winners Rangers suffered a surprise 3-2 defeat at Hibernian on Wednesday night.

Two goals from Jason Cummings and Anthony Stokes inside stunned Mark Warburton's side, fresh from their dramatic Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon.

Jason Holt threw the already-promoted Gers a lifeline shortly before half time, but Niklas Gunnarsson restored the two-goal cushion on 58 minutes as the hosts looked set for the three points.

Barrie McKay pulled one back five minutes before the end, but it was not enough to salvage a point.

During the defeat, Warburton, whose side have clinched promotion, reached a Scottish Cup final and won the Petrofac Cup in the space of two weeks, was left literally scratching his head as he pondered where it went wrong on the night.

Warburton's boys were 19 points ahead of third-placed Hibs, making the contest seem like a mere formality, but perhaps the successful past two weeks has caught up with the Glasgow giants.
