Everton were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.
Michael Owen has said on Twitter that last night was a ‘disaster’ for Everton, after they were heavily beaten by Liverpool.
The Toffees were demolished at Anfield yesterday evening by their fiercest rivals, after putting in an insipid performance throughout.
Everton were beaten 4-0 by the Reds, and the defeat could have been even heavier had Jurgen Klopp’s men been more ruthless.
Liverpool took the lead when Divock Origi headed the ball into the back of the net, and Mamadou Sakho quickly added a second just before half-time.
Things then went from bad to worse for Everton, with Ramiro Funes-Mori picking up a red-card, which will leave him suspended for the FA Cup semi-final.
Liverpool became even more dominant with the numerical advantage, and Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge both got on the scoresheet before full time.
To rub salt into the wounds, John Stones also went off before full-time with injury, and Owen doesn’t think the derby match could have gone much worse.
Disaster of a night for Everton. Didn't rest anyone before the weekend. Tired bodies, injuries and suspensions not to mention a mental scar.— michael owen (@themichaelowen) April 21, 2016
Everton’s next match comes against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, and if they are to lose again then Roberto Martinez’s position as the Toffees boss will come under serious threat.
