Jamie Carragher and David Moyes criticise Everton's performance

Everton were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.

Jamie Carragher and David Moyes have both slammed Everton’s performance in the Merseyside derby, during Sky Sports' coverage of the match yesterday.

Everton were hammered 4-0 by their local rivals in the contest, and they failed to show any sort of fight throughout the match.

The Toffees were totally outplayed by their rivals, and they collapsed as soon as Divock Origi headed the Reds into the lead.

Mamadou Sakho added a second for Liverpool, before Ramiro Funes Mori picked up a red-card and things went from bad to worse.

Goals from Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho rounded off the triumph, and Carragher let rip at Everton’s display.

“They were embarrassing,” the former Liverpool defender said. “I’ve never known a derby game where it was so easy to pass the ball. It was so easy. It could have been six or seven.

“He played his full strength team here, but to put in a performance in like that it was like they had their flip flops on.

“I couldn’t believe how they reacted to going down to 10 men. Everton were helping Liverpool by still taking chances!”

Moyes was similarly critical of the side who he used to manage, although he did give them some form of excuse.

Moyes felt that Everton struggled to cope without Seamus Coleman and Phil Jagielka, who were out injured, but he did admit that the Toffees' display fell short of the standard required.

“You can’t hide it, Everton were terrible,” Moyes said. “They missed Seamus Coleman and Phil Jagielka, but that wasn’t the reason Everton lost. Everton lost because Liverpool were much better.”
