Bou plays for Racing Club, one of Argentina's best known clubs behind River Plater and Boca Juniors, with Ossie Ardiles and Diego Simeone among their former players.
Bou, 26, has been prolific since signing for the club in 2014, with The Mail reporting he has 19 goals already this season, and has a record of 35 goals in 63 games for Racing.
West Ham are claimed to have sent representatives for talks with Racing Club this week over signing Bou, who is valued by his side at £9 million.
The paper add that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic wants to add two strikers to his squad next season, with loanee Emmanuel Emenike unlikely to be signed permanently.
Bou would be a gamble as strikers have struggled to adapt from the Argentine league directly to the Premier League, with Diego Forlan and Luciano Figueroa two instances, but if he is kept as a squad player and the Hammers sign a more high profile, proven striker, then the Racing Club forward could surprise a few people with the spotlight focused on a more expensive teammate.
