Report: Tottenham want 15-goal playmaker Josip Ilicic again after failed 2015 bid

Tottenham are reportedly keen to land Fiorentina ace Josip Ilicic.

According to Calcio Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur are renewing their interest in Fiorentina playmaker Josip Ilicic, but face competition from Leicester City and Borussia Dortmund.

Spurs have enjoyed a stunning season under Mauricio Pochettino, but may not manage to overtake Leicester at the top of the Premier League, even though they did cut the gap to just five points with a win over Stoke City on Monday.

Regardless, Champions League football is returning to White Hart Lane, and manager Pochettino may look to bring in new signings to strengthen his squad to cope with playing in multiple competitions.

Another playmaker could be added to offer some cover for Dele Alli, and Calcio Mercato report that Spurs are again in the race to sign Fiorentina star Josip Ilicic.

Tutto Mercato Web reported back in September 2015 that Tottenham had a deadline day bid to sign Ilicic rejected, but Spurs are now keen to land him again.

Ilicic, 28, has smashed 15 goals in all competitions this season, notching five assists for the Serie A side in an impressive campaign for the Slovenian international.

However, Spurs aren't the only team in the running, as Leicester City and Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be interested in signing Ilicic, who is a technically gifted attacking midfielder with the ability to score from long range - all of which unsurprisingly makes him a hot commodity ahead of the summer transfer window.
