Ray Parlour has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on 20th April, that Tottenham Hotspur could compete for the Premier League title for the years ahead, if they manage to sign a striker.
Tottenham rather surprisingly opted against bringing in a front man in January, with the North London club showing great faith in Harry Kane.
At the moment Spurs’ gamble has paid off, as Kane has stayed fit, but Parlour feels that they may need more cover up top in the future.
“What he’s [Pochettino's] done so far has been superb,” the former Arsenal midfielder said. “They’ve got a new stadium. But this team, if he can keep them together and bring in a new striker, which they need - they could have two or three seasons challenging for the title.”
Kane is the only out-and-out striker in Tottenham’s squad currently, with their other attacking options more happy playing deeper roles.
The likes of Nacer Chadli and Heung-Min Son have been used as strikers by Pochettino this season, but the pair both look more comfortable playing on the wing.
Tottenham have attempted to bring in forwards in previous transfer windows, but so far they have failed to get a deal over the line.
Kane has managed to ensure that their lack of cover has not been a problem this season, as he has shown a wonderful level of consistency.
Kane has notched 24 goals in 34 Premier League appearances this season, and he has helped the Lilywhites mount a push for the title.
