Rangers fans react on Twitter to Arsenal prospect Gedion Zelalem's performance

Gedion Zelalem

Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem was a second half substitute as Rangers took on Hibernian.

Arsenal youngster Gedion Zelalem insisted this week he was open to staying at Rangers on a permanent basis, STV reported.

Zelalem came on in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Celtic at the weekend, and held his nerve to score a spot kick in the decisive penalty shootout.

The 19-year-old is contracted to Arsenal, for who he is yet to start a game despite featuring as a substitute, but with Rangers promoted to the Scottish Premiership, Arsenal have to choose what is better for his development, to play in Scotland's top tier, or take his chances on the fringes of their team.

Last night he was on the bench again as Rangers took on Hibernian, coming on in the second half. He replaced Spurs loanee Dominic Ball in the 61st minute with his side 3-1 down.

Rangers went on to lose the game 3-2, improving after Zelalem's introduction. With promotion already assured, manager Mark Warburton is likely to rotate the side a bit, and the Arsenal youngster's contribution in the last two games as a substitute could see him receive the nod as a starter.
